Ben Silverman, co-Chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Television Studios was on the Charlie Rose show last night, discussing all things generally having to do with video programming.
In describing why Hulu’s content partners and advertisers would not be so quick, to duplicate their offering on YouTube, Silverman said, “Because that same image is next to a cat peeing in a toilet…So I think if you’re an advertiser, and you look at the environment of NBC, you know you’re in a protected environment.”
But let’s go back in time to the Summer 2008 issue of Movmnt Magazine, and a quote from yours truly in article on the digital future of dance, written
by the talented Taylor Gordon.
“We will have respectful presentations of content… there are great choreographers showing their work online, but do they really want their work shown next to videos of monkeys having bowel movements?”
On the one hand, it’s great to see someone like Ben Silverman feel the need to agree with me and use similarly colorful phrasing. On the other hand, Ben, you’re a plagiarist. Please give proper credit where credit is due. Then I’ll find whomever I stole the line from, and give credit to them, and so on. Sadly, I think I took it (or was at least inspired) from a rejected submission to America’s Funniest Home Videos once shown by Bob Saget on late night television in the mid 90′s (keywords: bob saget monkey in a tree).
